Just in time for Hispanic Heritage Month, top-selling cannabis edibles brand RR Brothers launched a Latin-American inspired product line called Catri. Available in nine delicious flavors for both recreational and medical purchase, these THC-infused gummies are sold at a variety of different dispensaries throughout Arizona.
Paying Homage to the Founder’s Mexican Roots
“Catri is short for La Catrina, the queen of Dias De Los Muertos and draws inspiration from my upbringing in Mexico, celebrating the rich history of my ancestors, as well as the pioneers of cannabis medicine,” Roberto Laposse, Founder and CEO of RR Brothers and Catri, said. “Catri embodies Mexico’s colorful and bold cultural heritage, infusing Latin-American flavor into every bite.”
When developing Catri, Laposse says the company wanted to emulate the formulas they created under RR Brothers, which focused on sensory appeal. The quintessential Latin-American flavors are designed to be transportive. They also wanted to create a gummy for those in the Latin-American community, and so far the feedback they have received from consumers is that Catri gummies have a nostalgic appeal and are reminiscent of their favorite Mexican candies. Catri flavors include piña colada, chamoy, horchata, tamarindo, dulce de leche, fresas con crema, mango tamarindo, platanito, and manzanita, with additional gummy varieties coming soon.
Making a Grand Debut in Arizona
After launching in June of 2022, Catri is on the shelves at the following dispensaries throughout Arizona: Sticky Saguaro, Ponderosa, The Mint, JARS, Nirvana, Nature’s Wonder, Green Pharms, Kind Meds, Earth’s Healing, Nature’s Medicine, and Oasis dispensaries. RR Brothers quickly rose through the Oklahoma market when they launched in 2020, and Catri is on a similar trajectory in Arizona.
Catri gummies are vegan, gluten-free, and made with endogenous compounds and natural ingredients. Instead of high-fructose corn syrup, Laposse says the company uses tapioca syrup. They are also pectin-based instead of using gelatin as a thickening agent. Pectin is derived from the walls of fruit and is easier for the body to break down.
Getting Started in the Cannabis Industry
According to Laposse, starting out in an established market like Oklahoma was interesting, but the company took the approach of building relationships with dispensaries and pushing hard to be the market share leader in the gummy category. Laposse believes their success has been driven by their approach — they prioritize product consistency, flavor, and excellent customer service with their dispensary partners. In addition, the brand is always working to introduce new flavors.
Laposse also has previous knowledge of running his family’s company in Mexico and learning the intricacies of candy manufacturing, distribution, and formula creation, which translated nicely into edibles. Through a confectionery background and with dedication to finding the right formula balance, the brand has been able to provide a consistent and enjoyable experience for consumers.
“Something we practice is developing strong relationships and connections with the people and vendors selling our products,” Laposse said. “The team works closely with our dispensary partners through budtender education and by listening to patient, consumer, and dispensary feedback. We believe thoughtful communication is an essential tactic to creating a well-rounded product and building brand longevity and loyalty.”
