This book was out of date back in the 1980’s!
OUTDATED!!!! That is a serious understatement! I went into it really hoping to learn a lot, and came out with more questions and being more upset than anything, The first half of the book seemed promising, but they barely even scratch the surface of information, they talk about water for less than a page, and when it comes to the Macronutrients and Micronutrients they barely have a paragraph of information. Which is the entire basis that Hydroponics are based off from, as you are growing directly in the water and if the PH or nutrients are off be it too much or too little plants are going to be killed off in a matter of hours, not days! You need to know what to look for and how to recognize too much or too little of something in the water, they make no mention of chlorine or chloramine in the water, which is something you want to avoid and get out of your water for your plants, they make no mention of water purification, or the basics to a real working Hydroponic system. When it comes to the plants themselves, you can seriously learn more from your 8th Grade biology book about a plant than you can in this, and yes I am 100% serious as I have that book to compare it too. The second half of the book is talking about an Ebb & flow (Flood & Drain) system, which consists of four 5-gallon buckets, which you can buy nowadays as a kit, they make no other mention of any other Hydroponic systems at all. While it does discussion “animation of your system” they discuss the computer program of 10-Basic… for those of you old enough to even know what that means. It is a system where you have to assign the computer Lines and by values in which to read, as an example right out of the book itself: (What is displayed in parentheses is what the program would then tell you)20 PRINT “THIS PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO GIVE AN ESTIMATE OF25 PRINT “THE NET RATE OF PHOTOSYNTHESIS”You can learn more on the internet than you ever will out of this book, save your money unless you are looking to buy a book that is by far out of date and that doesn’t have as much information to it as a 6th Grade Science Project.

Sad mislabeled comic book grade growing guide
Definitely not worth buying. Antiquated and full of myths with few shared facts that aren’t already very well know even to newbies. The book is advertised as being by Ed Rosenthal and it is not. The book is really no more then a rehashing of old DWC methodolgies that are known to provide small expensive yields. The methodolgies suggested by the author are known to produce a system wrought with root rot problems. IMHO people would better benefit by simply reading online material from one of the major online growing forums. The hydro nutrient formula advertsied as a lure is no more then a recipe for Hoagland’s formula, which is a over 30 year an old tomato nutrient formula widely posted online but never used anymore. Don’t waste your money on this book.
